Bowls Buddies are ideal for introducing children to the sport of bowls. All children will be captivated by the challenge of all the different activities on offer, such as landing the bowls onto a target mat, knocking down skittles, scoring points in a target wedge or simply getting closest to the jack. The best thing about bowls is that it can engage those children who are not otherwise engaged by the mainstream sports or who are not especially ‘sporty’. It can also be easily played by those with a disability.
A massive schools’ programme utilising the Bowls Buddies equipment has recently been undertaken in East Lancashire over 2024/25 by the Philip Wright Bowling Academy involving 14 primary schools and over 500 pupils. The Case Study of this highly successful project is shown at the bottom of this page.
Another extremely successful trial was undertaken with the West Lancashire School Sports Partnership (WLSSP) over 2021/22 (organised by Ian Gill who is now one of the Partners of Bowls Buddies LLP alongside the WLSSP) and the results can also be seen in the attached document at the bottom of this page. The Bowls Buddies bowls were developed to solve one of the main issues that was faced at the time, the lack of a suitable soft polyurethane bowl that could be used on indoor surfaces.
School Kits
Bowls Buddies have launched four specially designed kits for schools. More details can be found by clicking on the button below. If you school has been working with one of the BDA Regional Officers then you will have been given a special link to access the special offers available to you.
Activity Booklet
Bowls Buddies have produced a 30 page A4 Activity Book that is ideal for Schools, Sports Partnerships or Clubs that want to engage children. This is included with all our kits. An example of a game card, and what it contains, is shown below.

The Activity Book gives 16 different fun games that can be played with the bowls and associated equipment. In addition, there are some basic instructions on how the bowls should be held and how to understand and teach bias. The Activity Book can also be purchased separately.
Bowls Blitz – competitive bowls

The Activity Booklet includes detailed rules for how to play ‘Bowls Blitz’. This is a standardised game of bowls for indoor sports halls that can be played on a badminton court or similarly marked out area. This enables schools to compete against each other at town, district, county, regional or national level. It could also be played outdoors on bowling greens or artificial sports surfaces in marked out lanes.
